Jonathan is in the early stages of adult life, though has already become Director of Music for Lemington MVC; Ashington & District MVC; Prudhoe Parish Children’s Choir; and assists at St. John the Baptist’s Church, Newcastle. Arranging/composing have been part of his life since 2005, as well as a broader interest in musicianship education and practical theory.
Before earning his Music BA in 2013, Jonathan was heavily involved with a number of ensembles at Newcastle University, the most notable being the Gilbert and Sullivan society (NUGSS). During his studies he took on roles as both treasurer and assistant MD before principally directing ‘Yeomen of the Guard’ and a G&S’ed version of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ in 2015, arranging the full orchestra and choir scores himself.
Jonathan has had the pleasure of directing Newcastle Madrigal Choir; Abbreviation, a choir for singers from varied musical disciplines/abilities; a Northumberland Prison Choir; Barber Shop Quartets; and assorted ad hoc a cappella groups. Jonathan has also written music for concerts, weddings, even a vicar’s first mass, as well as performing across the country with such groups as Newcastle Cathedral Choir, Northern Sinfonia Chorus, the Singers, Flotsam, and the Swing Bridge Singers.

Derek Brett

After graduating from the London College of Music and the University of Ulster Derek began his musical career as a trombonist and pianist in HM Band of the Irish Guards. He has also been a music teacher in several special schools as well as working in venue management in both theatre and cinema.

Derek has always enjoyed accompanying and as well as playing for LMVC he is also the accompanist for Ashington MVC. He has played for Newcastle Musical Theatre Company and West End Operatic Society, with Felling Concert Choir and Low Fell Singers and for numerous examinations and school concerts and productions.
